Dividing, outsourcing for quality and conquering for achievement

A PhD scholar is up and foremost a first time researcher ( She is undertaking a research project for the first time ). The key objective of pursuing a PhD is to prove that she can learn a topic on her own by scientifically researching and investigating it in detail from the real world around her. This in turn gives her new insights into the topic and thereby establishing herself as an expert of that topic. The underlying curiosity and resulting thought process enables her to become philosophical in her area of interest. And, that is how she earns a degree of Doctor of Philosophy also known as a PhD degree.
As doctor of Philosophy ( PhD for short ) is a research degree which is an important requirement for teaching and for career advancement at academic institutions in India, specifically at the advanced degree level, PhD is even mandatory for most of the positions. The duration of this research can be anywhere between three to six years depending on chosen subjects, specializations etcetera. During this time, most of the PhD scholars in India wear different hats being it as a working women ( teaching or non-teaching ), a home-maker, a caregiver, raising children and what not. These multiple responsibilities coupled with rigorous requirements of the degree put immense pressure on the scholars.
As per this news article “Financial hardship, disagreement between student-supervisor, compromised students’ support services and an uncertain job market” were some of the crucial reasons reported for a range of depressive disorders among PhD scholars. In one incidence as reported in this news article a PhD scholars' family filed an FIR against the research guide, HOD and dean for harassment.
As per AISHE ( All India Survey on Higher education) report for the year 2021 - 2022, There were 2.13 lakh students enrolled at PhD Level which represents just 0.5 % of the overall student enrolments at higher education ( above standard 12 ). Of these overall PhD scholars about 47% are women. During the same period 32,588 ( 43% were women ) PhD scholars received their degree that is just 15% of the overall enrolled PhD scholars.
The table and chart shows status of women PhD scholars in India from years 2016 - 2022, With new enrolments growing at a CAGR of 5.18% and total enrolments growing at a faster rate of 10.74%, not enough women are being awarded PhD degrees in comparison to new enrolments.
Today, success is not just defined by completion of the goal alone, but it is also defined by the quality achieved. However, with current realities of women in Indian science, who most of the time wear multiple hats simultaneously, should think further by dividing, outsourcing for quality and conquering for achievement. This site is intended for those hard-working women who would want to achieve by doing it themselves but are looking for efficient, time saving, money saving tricks to achieve quality through expert paid collaboration of only a specific task rather than buying or completely outsourcing their PhD research thesis in India.
